Four young musicians, who make up the Turner Quartet, are preparing to add the String Quartet by Claude Debussy to their repertoire. To do this Amwell Society have arranged a ‘test the water’ concert to hear this fabulous work and brighten up a gloomy January evening.
After the quartet’s premiere, in 1893, it was described as being dominated by the influence of young Russia with poetic themes with new musical sound combinations, breaking with convention.
As an added bonus, the renowned ‘cellist, Sophie Harris, has agreed to talk to the young artists about the challenges that a string quartet faces as four people playing with one voice. Sophie will ask questions about preparing a work for performance, the feelings of each musician and what the music means to them. The audience will be invited to ask questions too.
